What is GreenGirt?

About GreenGirt CMH

Designers and builders often seek the load-bearing capacity and structural integrity of steel plus the non-conductive, thermally efficient properties of fiberglass – the GreenGirt composite metal hybrid family of continuous insulation systems can deliver on those features (and more!). GreenGirt CMH is a high-performance Z-girt system that combines the corrosion-resistant and insulative properties of fiber reinforced polymers with the structural resilience of a continuous metal component on each of the substrate- and cladding-facing flanges. This unique composition of CMH systems guarantees high structural strength and ensures robust screw retention – allowing screws to permanently fasten into a continuous metallic structural support for effective and reliable load distribution. Installers often favor CMH systems for their ease of installation – comparable to installing standard steel Z-girts.

Available in widths up to 8 inches, GreenGirt CMH systems eliminate the need for any insulation retention tools and conveniently work with all types of insulation: mineral wool, spray foam, and rigid-board insulation like XPS, EPS, and dual foil-faced class A polyiso.

Fully-integrated continuous insulation systems

GreenGirt CMH and SMARTci are most commonly specified as standard Z-girt wall systems (for vertical, horizontal, or diagonal installation), but complementary systems are available for use on roofs (GreenGirt CMH Roof), around windows and doors (GreenGirt CMH XO), for adjustability (GreenGirt CMH Delta Adjustable), and as clips (GreenGirt CHM Clips) – making convenient, versatile, and efficient fully-integrated systems.

Popular for its composite metal hybrid systems, Advanced Architectural Products has engineered and provided its GreenGirt CMH continuous insulation system in a multitude of sizes and configurations to accommodate all insulation types – for installation on thousands of buildings across the U.S., Canada, and beyond. These systems leverage composite metal hybrid materials for structural strength, fastener torque retention, durability, thermal efficiency, and more.

A historical evolution – from steel to FRP to CMH

Steel has been a long-standing choice for sub-framing as it stands out for strength and durability. But steel is a conductive material, making it difficult – if not impossible – to use steel sub-framing to achieve high R-values, energy code compliance, and overall healthier buildings.

The desire for energy efficient building enclosures and high R-values increased demand for fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) sub-framing products. Made entirely of non-conductive fiberglass, these Z-girt products are efficient at eliminating the thermal bridges that occur in buildings, however, they don’t have the same structural strength as steel – reducing their longevity, durability, and fastener retention, especially under the extreme service temperatures that can occur inside sub-framing systems.

Enter composite metal hybrid, popularly known as “CMH” – the preferred choice today for continuous insulation systems. CMH combines the strength and durability of steel with the non-conductive, thermally efficient properties of fiberglass.
