Chartiers Valley Middle School

Bridgeville, PA

Chartiers Valley Middle School in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, uses 52,000 square feet of the SMARTci® building enclosure system over open metal studs, behind corrugated metal and fiber cement, with polyiso insulation. It is a public middle school. It was designed by IKM, Inc., built by Walter Mucci Construction, and installed by Ram Acoustical Corp.

This middle school combines two contrasting claddings, corrugated metal and fiber cement, on a single wall. The two materials have different assembly depths, so the SMARTci® system varies its depth across the façade, positioning each cladding on its intended plane while enclosing the entire wall in one continuous, air- and water-tight insulated assembly. Because the system installs over open framing in a single pass, the wall reaches a weather-tight condition without multiple sequenced layers, which suits a school where exterior work must often be completed within the summer break between academic years.
