About GreenGirt CMH and SMARTci

Background, properties, and innovations at the core of these popular systems

Ever wonder about the difference between the GreenGirt CMH™ and SMARTci® systems?  Curious about the names of the two popular systems? As your trusted partner for engineered continuous insulation and building enclosure systems, Advanced Architectural Products’ is proud to showcase the popular GreenGirt CMH™ and SMARTci® systems.

These cutting-edge systems have been installed on thousands of buildings across the US, Canada, and globally.  Celebrated for their unique combination of structural integrity and thermally insulative properties, this article highlights the background, properties, and additional innovations at the core of these popular systems.

GreenGirt continuous insulation systems

GreenGirt CMH™ is a family of continuous insulation systems that combines structural composite metal hybrid sub-framing and compatible accessories with expert engineering support. GreenGirt systems can be used with mineral wool, spray foam, or your preferred insulation material to eliminate thermal bridging and increase energy efficiency. All GreenGirt CMH™ systems comply with the eight best practices for effective design, installation, and performance optimization of continuous insulation and building enclosure systems – including structural integrity, fastener retention, thermal efficiency, durability, fire resistance, environmental impact, building health, and ease of installation.

GreenGirt continuous insulation systems are constructed of composite metal hybrid – more commonly referred to as CMH – a high-performance construction material that combines the corrosion-resistant and insulative properties of fiberglass with the structural resilience of continuous metal components. In addition to GreenGirt CMH Clips, GreenGirt CMH Delta Adjustable, and GreenGirt CMH Roof, the GreenGirt family also includes the new GreenGirt CMH XO, a continuous insulation system for windows.

In addition to its popular green color, GreenGirt CMH™ is also a green and environmentally friendly material. Known for helping buildings increase their energy efficiency, GreenGirt is free of all Red-List materials (including no halogen or bromine), has an Environmental Product Declaration and Declare label, can contribute to LEED certification, and is manufactured in a net-zero and carbon-neutral manufacturing plant.

SMARTci™ – The building enclosure system that eliminates thermal bypass; guaranteed!

SMARTci® is an air- and water-tight building enclosure system comprised of GreenGirt CMH sub-framing and necessary accessories with expert engineering support, plus integrated custom-profiled rigid insulation panels. Named for its comprehensive and smart approach to building enclosures, the SMARTci system leverages rigid-board insulation materials including dual foil-faced class A polyiso, XPS, or EPS panels that are cut and custom-profiled in the Advanced Architectural Products factory.  SMARTci arrives at your job site hassle-free and ready to install in a single-pass, is 92-98% thermally efficient, eliminates thermal bypass, and provides the highest R-value available – up to 50% higher than competitive systems.

SMARTci can be installed over traditional closed framing with sheathing and a water-resistive barrier for water tightness to 1.57 PSF and air tightness to 6 PSF (WRB/sheathing provided by others). Alternatively, SMARTci can be installed over open framing to enhance air and water tightness, save time, and further reduce labor and materials costs.
