Argonne National Laboratory

Lemont, IL
Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont, Illinois, uses 31,000 square feet of GreenGirt Max CMH™ over metal studs, behind metal panels, with mineral wool insulation. It is a scientific research building serving the lab’s scientists. The project was designed by Flad Architects and built and installed by Clark Construction.

For a laboratory built for a tight, high-performance envelope, the wall needed continuous insulation that limits thermal bridging through the metal-stud framing; GreenGirt Max CMH supported that by holding the cladding over a continuous insulation layer. Across the metal-stud wall, the continuous layer improves energy performance and helps hold steady interior conditions, which matters in an energy-intensive lab where ventilation and conditioning loads are high and the work inside depends on a stable environment.
