Northeast Bronx YMCA

Bronx, NY

Northeast Bronx YMCA in the Bronx, New York, uses GreenGirt Max CMH™ over metal studs, behind metal panel and weathering steel cladding, with mineral wool insulation. It is a community recreation and fitness center, designed by Marvel Architecture, built by the New York City Economic Development Corporation, and installed by The Jobin Organization.

Weathering steel forms a stable rust patina, and the iron-bearing runoff it sheds can stain adjacent materials, so its support must tolerate that runoff and keep it off the wall behind. GreenGirt Max CMH carries the weathering steel and metal panels on a thermally broken plane over continuous mineral wool, holding both claddings off a sealed assembly so the patina develops at the surface while the insulated wall behind remains protected.
