Tri-County Biological Science Center

North Charleston, SC

Tri-County Biological Science Center in North Charleston, SC, uses 8,500 SF of the SMARTci® building enclosure system over metal studs and gypsum, behind metal plate cladding, with polyiso insulation. It is a forensic DNA laboratory built through a collaboration among Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties, designed by LS3P, built by Contract Construction, and installed by Tidewater Building Group.

A forensic laboratory depends on a stable interior, where consistent temperature and humidity protect sensitive instruments and analytical integrity. SMARTci provides a continuous air- and water-tight enclosure over polyiso, limiting the infiltration that would disrupt interior conditions in North Charleston’s hot, humid climate.
