Sutphin Senior Residence in Queens, NY, uses 7,900 LF of the GreenGirt XO™ structural thermal framing system at its window and door openings. It is a 15-story affordable senior housing building at 97-04 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, designed to Passive House standards by Bernheimer Architecture, and built by Monadnock Construction.

Window and door openings are where conventional framing concentrates thermal loss, a primary concern for a building pursuing Passive House certification. The GreenGirt XO system frames those openings to align the window’s thermal plane with that of the continuous insulation, extending the insulated plane through the opening and reducing the energy loss at the perimeter.
