Friendship Engine and Hose Company

Merrick, NY

Friendship Engine and Hose Company in Merrick, NY, uses 4,200 SF of the SMARTci® building enclosure system over wood studs, behind Hardie fiber cement siding, with polyiso insulation. It is a new fire station replacing a 1931 firehouse, with expanded apparatus bays, living quarters, and training areas, designed by H2M architects + engineers, built by Web Construction Group, and installed by Statewide Construction.

A fire station runs around the clock, with crews living on site and apparatus bays that open to the outside through the day. SMARTci seals the building in a continuous air- and water-tight enclosure, holding steady, comfortable conditions in the living quarters and limiting the energy lost each time the bays cycle open against the cold Long Island winters.
