Home Court at the Obama Presidential Center

Chicago, IL

Home Court at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, Illinois, uses 19,000 square feet of GreenGirt Max CMH™ over metal studs, behind stainless steel panel cladding, with mineral wool insulation. The 45,000-square-foot facility is the first completed building on the Obama Presidential Center campus, housing a regulation NBA-size basketball court, practice courts, and community wellness programs. The project was designed by Moody Nolan, built by Elevate Design Build Group, and installed by American Igloo Builders, Inc.

As part of a campus-wide goal of reaching LEED v4 Platinum and Zero Energy certification for every building, Home Court draws 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, primarily through geothermal energy, with rooftop solar panels. Reaching Zero Energy certification requires a building to generate as much energy on-site as it consumes, which depends on keeping heating and cooling loads low. GreenGirt Max CMH supports that by carrying mineral wool insulation in a continuous layer outside the metal stud framing, eliminating thermal bridging through the wall assembly to help keep the building’s energy demands within what the solar and geothermal systems are designed to supply.
