Saddleback College Science & Math Building

Mission Viejo, CA
The Saddleback College Science & Math Building in Mission Viejo, California, uses 23,000 square feet of the SMARTci® building enclosure system over metal studs, behind stone veneer cladding, with polyiso insulation. The new facility will provide modern instructional and laboratory space that supports STEM education for thousands of students. The project was designed by HGA, built by Icon West, and installed by Tarlton & Son, Inc. For a higher education facility designed with sustainability in mind, the building envelope needed to provide continuous insulation while supporting a heavy exterior cladding system. SMARTci helps meet those objectives by reducing thermal bridging through the wall assembly, maintaining a continuous insulation layer, and providing a structural attachment solution for the stone veneer. The result is a wall system that supports long-term building performance while helping improve occupant comfort and operational efficiency.
